Meeting the Need
For the thousands who live below the poverty line of $15,650/year, there is no option for living independently. Most are couch-hopping or living in overcrowded spaces with no running water (or other unsafe conditions). The need goes far beyond affordable housing. We have to address the underlying causes of a person’s housing crisis. Whether treating an addiction, preparing them for a job interview or helping them learn to budget their money, Nehemiah is committed to doing whatever it takes to help people overcome the obstacles to independent living.
Working Recovery
We have put a high priority on employing exceptional graduates of Nehemiah to lead the next generation of participants. As a result, the majority of our Coaching and Counseling Program is led by our graduates. These powerful advocates can then relate and inspire in a unique way because they have walked the same path. We invest in our people so they can invest in others!

A Personal Touch
From the beginning, our program has valued the individual’s needs and growth process. Our Coaching and Counseling team meets with participants in daily groups and weekly individual sessions to address their specific recovery, mental health and life skill needs. We don’t just expect them to find a job. We prepare them to find a job, hold onto it and thrive in it. Our Coaches and Counselors take the time to get to know an individual’s history, strengths and limitations, so we can maximize their chances to succeed. We lead classes on everything from trauma recovery and healthy relationships to workforce development and managing money.
